If you have recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi with LMT or LM extension (for example Garmin Nuvi 1450 LM, Nuvi 1300 LM, Nuvi 2595lmt, etc) it means that you can benefit from free lifetime map updates (the life of the device of course, or better yet the average usage duration of a Garmin Nuvi).

- I just got a new Nuvi 2555LMT and was trying to do a first time update of the maps. Garmin now only lets one use the Garmin Express program for installation of both firmware and software. The firmware upgrade seemed to go fine. The maps were downloaded to the computer and were prepared for installation.
- Garmin Support Center is where you will find answers to frequently asked questions and resources to help with all of your Garmin products.
- The nuvi 2555 connects in the MTP mode, the nuvi 755 uses mass storage mode and it's the MTP drivers that are at fault. Use the following steps to run a system scan that might correct the problem. In the Start menu type cmd. When cmd.exe appears in the menu, right click it and select Run As Administrator.

Free Garmin Nuvi 2555 Updates 2016
I just got a new Nuvi 2555LMT and was trying to do a first time update of the maps. Garmin now only lets one use the Garmin Express program for installation of both firmware and software. The firmware upgrade seemed to go fine. The maps were downloaded to the computer and were prepared for installation. The program said it was going to 'view the gps', everything was ok and it was going to install the maps. After a few minutes of no activity and zero percent installed, it aborted and gave a message that an error had occurred. I have tried this about a dozen times with the same results. I would appreciate any help.

Garmin Map Updates
- I know the prompt on the download step of MyMaps says 'The Garmin Express program will run on your computer and help you update the map on your device. Please download and use it now'. But when I click on the Download Now button, it actually downloads and runs garminmapupdater_v3.2.2.exe instead of Garmin Express. Is that what you are getting too? If so, I am not sure what problem you are running into. I am testing it now and it is up to about 25% download.
Also, in terms of firmware updates, WebUpdater is still available for download, so I don't think they have eliminated it yet as an update option.
It does appear that Garmin is preparing to eliminate the MapUpdater program. I hope they don't do that until Express has proven itself to be reliable. - I think it only does that if Express is already installed. If you update from within Express it runs mapupdater.
- I only get the Garmin Express. I have triied uninstalling it, and going to a different computer, but when I try to download from My Maps, it starts, then stops and says I must download and use Garmin Express. I can't beyond it. How can I find Updater?
- The first thing I did was update the firmware this was done with Garmin Express. I was not given a choice for Webupdater, nor did I see any reference to it.
When I just looked at my inventory via MyGarmin and tried to start a map update from there, a download started, stopped, and I got the message to download Garmin Express to finish. - Thank you for your comments!
I went to a different computer to start from scratch. This time I was able to download the MapUpdater. In less than a minute the maps were updated. Just on a whim I checked to see if there were any other updates needed. Yes, indeed, software updates were needed. Evidently, the Garmin Express program did not do the upgrade. It just said it did. As I remember, I did not have to disconnect and the unit, start it, turn it off and reconnect to the computer. Should have been a dead give away.
Thanks again. I am a happy camper, or rather traveler. - If it took less than a minute, I don't think mapupdater updated the maps; maybe the firmware, but not the maps.
- You were right about the maps not being updated. I re-ran the mapupdater and carefully watched what was happening. I had hit a wrong key and bypassed the actual update. The download took about 70 minutes and 20 minutes to install. Checking on the gps, and it does have the update.
Thanks again for your skepticism.
I have been using a pc.
